We are pleased to announce that HUNÉP Zrt. has won the 2025 Construction Industry Award in the “Agricultural Buildings” category for the construction of the Sauska Winery in Rátka. The prestigious award was presented to Mr. Miklós Bakos, CEO at the ÉVOSZ Annual General Meeting on December 10, 2025, one of the most significant professional recognitions in the Hungarian construction industry.

The Sauska Winery in Rátka is more than just a wine production facility – it is a complex where contemporary architecture, high-level engineering expertise, and sustainable design come together harmoniously. The building serves as a new gastronomic and cultural venue for the Tokaj wine region, providing a fitting environment to showcase the exceptional wines and flavors of the area, while contributing to the region’s tourism and cultural heritage.

Project Goals and Significance

The goal of the Sauska Winery project was to create a modern, energy-efficient, and aesthetically outstanding winery center that faithfully reflects the values of the Sauska brand. The facility is exemplary in several aspects:

  • Design blending with the landscape
  • Two 36-meter diameter, floating lens-shaped roof structures
  • Curved formwork and meticulously designed interior spaces
  • Cutting-edge mechanical, electrical, and installation solutions
  • Strong focus on environmental sustainability and long-term durability

The greenfield project was completed with full infrastructure according to the highest European standards, making it not only an architectural but also a technological leader among agricultural buildings.

Execution and Professional Collaboration

HUNÉP Zrt. acted as the general contractor, while another member of our group, HAJDU ALU Zrt., participated as a subcontractor. The design of the building was done by BORD Építész Stúdió, and the interior design work was carried out by ART.DOT Kft.

The project’s planning began in 2014, with detailed design and refinement continuing until 2022, and the facility was officially handed over to Sauska in 2024.

Sustainability and Technological Innovation

The project paid special attention to sustainable architecture principles. Modern mechanical and electrical systems, energy-efficient solutions, and environmentally conscious material use all contributed to making the Sauska Winery not only architecturally but also technologically exceptional.
